Birth of “Hidden Voices”

I was led to create a format for a women’s speaking group, which evolved into “Hidden Voices Ministry,” as a result of a series of dreams I had beginning in January, 2009. Additionally, several friends also had dreams about me, serving to confirm God’s encouragement to assemble women to practice the presentation of their testimony. I had two insights as a result of these dreams.

First, I began to see that women speaking candidly about their trials could energize and encourage isolated women to speak. Second, I saw the need to restore women’s sense of self esteem, identity, and perspective on past failures and disappointments.

We all needed encouragement. We needed to realize that each has a unique contribution to make and that God is incorporating our past failed expectations and disappointments into His regime of training to transform thinking and provide lessons of redemption for others. In other words, women could receive healing through the therapy of transparently speaking about their testimonies through seasons of hardship. Likewise, those hearing the stories could benefit from that wisdom and regain spiritual vitality and hope in their life’s trials. Inevitably, the recovery of stolen spiritual treasure hinges on the acknowledgment of finding God’s perspective on loss and redemptive suffering.

"Dream"

I was given a dream in the night
To free women from shame, insecurity, and fright,
To help them find keys, to unlock prison doors,
To set them free from images that existed before.

I had a dream— that stolen things would be returned
A fire within brightly burn;
That women would climb the highest tree
And become all they were intended to be.

I had a dream— that the performance of life would cease,
A mountaintop view would increase,
That hidden voices would emerge and speak at ease.
I had a dream-foundations would be rebuilt to just “be,”
Ragamuffin stories would help others see.

 I had a dream—
That inspired words from women would multiply
Giving courage to conquer and dispel lies,

I had a dream—
That women would finish strong
And speak in front of great throngs-
Weaving faith, harmony, and love to all
And move in rhythm as one.

I had a dream.
